The Lonesome Trail Arborglyphs and Basque Sheepherders in the Far West
Join us for a fascinating educational program about Basque Arborglyphs—historic tree carvings made by Basque sheepherders in the American West!
This program will dive into the rich cultural history behind these carvings, showing how they reflect the stories and identity of the Basque people. Guest speakers, including Dr. John Bieter from Boise State, Iñaki Arrieta Baro from University Nevada, Reno, and Dr. Steve Gamboa from CSU Bakersfield, will share their insights on the carvings and the importance of preserving them for future generations.
The program will feature stunning digital images of these carvings and wrap up with a special event- the grand opening of an exhibit celebrating Arborglyphs and Basque culture. Whether you’re a student, a scholar, or just curious, this is a unique opportunity to explore a piece of history up close!
