She shares how the kindness of one teacher, Ms. Lockhart, greatly influenced her love of education, and how her pastor and Project Rebound program coordinator, Michael Dotson, opened the door for James to pursue higher education at California State University, Bakersfield. James shares her excitement and anxiety in enrolling in higher education courses, and how this experience differed from her experience in trying to take educational and vocational courses during her incarceration.
